Watershed Student Writers Honored

Congratulations!
Two Watershed School student writers were honored this month in prestigious contests sponsored by the Maine Community College System and the Academy of American Poets.

Watershed junior Jesse Dunn was selected as one of only nine finalists for his creative non-fiction entry in the Journey into Writing Contest, open to high school juniors throughout Maine. As a finalist for the 2015 Governor's Young Writer of the Year award, Jesse will receive an award of $500 and a commemorative plaque. Judges in this year's contest were noted Maine authors Lewis Robinson, Susan Kenney, and Bill Roorbach.

Senior Heather Dumond's letter to poet Arthur Sze in response to his poem "The Chance" was one of only a dozen letters selected from 1,500 letters submitted by high schoolers and middle schoolers to the Academy of American Poets' nation-wide Dear Poet writing contest this year. Heather's letter to Sze, along with his response to her letter, can be seen at: http://www.poets.org/poetsorg/dear-arthur-sze-heather
